Recruitment scam email

One of  my "roving reporters" brought this to my attention.    It's an email that has been sent to individuals in the Philippines from the email address sonyericssonmobilecommunications@yahoo.co.uk

Congratulations!!! Your CV was reviewed and chosen for the customer service representative position available at Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications UK . Attached is your Employment Agreement which describes the terms and conditions of your appointment .

Please note you required a Work permit to be able to work in London . Sign the Employment Agreement and submit it to the Work Permit Department through email and also contact the work permit department for enquiries on how to obtain a UK Work permit .
The Work Permit Department would also assist you in obtaining a UK working Visa through the British Embassy after your UK Work Permit is issued . The Company would pay for your flight ticket to the UK and also provide an accomodation for you at our Staff Quaters in London .

The scam is that the individual has to pay £300 to get a work permit from the "Work Permit Department".  I guess there are probably other costs that suddenly appear as they try to take up the "job offer". 

Apparently (according to another highly trusted source) it has caught the eye of  Sony Ericsson's Head of HR (who is not called John Scholes).  The word on the street is that it was reported to the Police, but they can't take any action as it originates outside the UK.

Hazel, I'm glad you investigated before proceeding. Apart from other indicators that it's a scam one is that these large corporates would NEVER use yahoo email addresses and nor would a government department.

I also received a smilar letter. Attached is a contract from Panasonic. The only thing that caught my eye is that it shows that the user is using a yahoo mail. Is possible for Panasonic not to have it's own domain?

I received a similar message for job in UK. I was preety surprised as I know there is already saturation of doctors in UK and indian qualifications are not recognised there. One job site naukri.com, had advertised it. Mail was fullm of gramatical and spelling mistakes. It was from some HUGHES AND MOORE MEDICAL HOSPITAL. They should try to stop all this before innocent ones are cheated.

Looks like anyone who has put up an application for a job on Naukri.com has got a mail from Hughes and Moore.

I can assure you that there is NO WAY IN HEAVEN OR HELL that an Indian Doctor with only an indian medical qualification can get a job in the UK. SO dont for once think that there is any evidence of truth in this e-mail. If you got scammed of 1,100 GBP, well you better laugh it off or go to the papers and let them know. That latter option may may you look foolish and you may still not get the money back.

For next time, check out the mentioned hospital on the internet and contact it directly. You may waste a few rupees on the phone call, but its better than loosing pounds!
