Interview with a Blogger - Jonathan Fagan

Intv_jonathanJonathan Fagan is a real niche blogger.  He's a (non-practising) solicitor who runs a legal recruitment consultancy.  His blog contains articles on legal recruitment as well as monthly legal job market updates.  You might think that a niche blog like this would hold no appeal to anyone outside of the legal industry.  However, most of Jonathan's posts are relevant to all sectors.  For example he's recently done a series of answers to common interview questions (the latest one is here) which I've really enjoyed reading.   So, on with the interview.

How long have you been blogging?
About 6 months now.

Why did you start?
I have been writing books and articles about legal recruitment for a long time, and I wanted to get these to a wider audience - it certainly spreads quite fast at times when you write a contentious point or deal with an important issue.

What do you do, work related, when you aren't blogging?
I am managing director of www.ten-percent.co.uk - online legal recruitment consultants.

Do you think blogging has helped your business?
Absolutely - you get a lot of feedback from candidates and clients - I promote my blog via our website as well.

What do you feel is the biggest challenge about writing a blog?
Time - I find it very hard to write during the day, and often have to pop out in the evening to my office to do it.

What's another blog that you read and why do you recommend it?
Richard Brunstrom - Chief Constable of North Wales - very honest and interesting blog.

What do you want your reader's to know about you?
I want them to read our articles, and then if they are looking for a post in months or years to come, they remember who the slightly unusual legal recruitment agency were they came across when reading the blog!

If you knew someone was thinking about starting a recruitment related blog, what advice would you want to give them?
Make sure you keep writing - hardest bit is to maintain the commitment to add articles into the blog.

Is there a question you wished I asked you?
Apart from one that enables me to promote my online legal recruitment company further, or the fact that we donate 10% of our profits to various charitable causes, no not really!
