Recruitment Industry Awareness Training

TrainingThe REC recently announced a new training initiate which they are running on a trial basis with a couple of member agencies (KSM Resourcing and McCall).  It's a one-day training course for candidates interested in joining the recruitment industry.  The aim is to ensure potential candidates understand what working in the recruitment industry would really be like.  Considering the high attrition rate within the industry it's got to be a good thing.  Apparently the course covers "an understanding of the recruiter’s role, including the skills and attributes needed and typical performance levels and targets. It will also examine the highs and the lows as well as career development opportunities within the industry".

I wonder how broad the course actually is?  Do they cover what it's like to work at high street agency as well as a headhunt firm and the difference between being a researcher, resourcer, account manager, delivery consultant, search consultant, etc?

The two companies signed up to run the trial are both recruitment to recruitment firms, so candidates who attend the course will be potential placements for them.  McCall aren't charging candidates to go on the course, however, KSM Resourcing are charging what the REC called a nominal fee.

After the pilot the scheme should be expanded and any REC member firm will be able to apply for accreditation to run their own "REC recruitment industry awareness training".

Perhaps if some of the new entrants to the industry had a better idea of what the job of a recruiter  entails it would help to improve the standards within the industry, which can't be a bad thing.  However, nearly everyone I know "fell" into recruitment (none via a rec to rec company) and for most it was a massive leap into the unknown.  What hope for them?!
