Are you Data Protection Legit?

PaperworkCaroline Mills supplied the favourites in this week's newsletter.  One of them was for the Information Commissioner.  In June this year they produced a press release entitled "ICO launches data protection crackdown on recruitment agencies".  They point out that around 50% of recruitment firms are failing to meet their obligations under the Data Protection Act, by registering as data controllers.  It costs £35 a year and needs to be renewed annually. One recruitment firm has been fined £2000 for not complying.

So this is a heads-up from me..... spend a few minutes checking you are registered!

Because Caroline is such a nice person I said I'd mention a relevant training course she offers. It's called Recruitment and the Law. It covers legal and ethical issues that affect us, such as the implications of the recent Employment Equality (Age) Regulations, keeping personal data, and taking references . She also covers the practical side including registering with the ICO, putting together a privacy statement for websites, and how to respond to unsolicited resumes. The cost is £300 for up to 5 people, and she runs the course at the client's offices.  If you want to know more you call Caroline on 07917 839199 or email carolinemills1@hotmail.com.
