Interview with a blogger - Nick Gallimore

Intv_nickNick Gallimore left Durham University in 2003 with a First-Class BSc in Linguistics and was apparently attracted to Recruitment by the passion and energy of Idealpeople's MD.  Nick joined Idealpeople in 2004 as a Resourcer, before becoming Idealpeople's resident IT Security specialist in 2005.  Early in 2007 he was appointed Operations Manager and became the resident Blogmaster, Marketing Manager, HR Manager and Internal Recruitment Manager.

How long have  you been blogging?
The Idealpeople blog went live at the start of August, although I've been blogging in my head for a couple of years.

Why did you start?
We've been looking at doing a blog for a while.  For us, it's about raising our profile to some extent, but also about sharing the knowledge and experience that we (and our candidates) have amassed over the years

What do you do, work related, when you aren't blogging?
I'm responsible for all of Idealpeople's Marketing, Operations HR and Internal Recruitment.  It's a demanding (and huge) job!

Do you think blogging has helped your business?
It's early days, but we're confident of having enough to say to make it a very effective tool.

What do you feel is the biggest challenge about writing a blog?
Coming up with enough content (and time) to post something everyday.  Thankfully, we've got a great team here who have got themselves into the spirit of things and seem (so far) to be willing contributors.  I just hope the novelty doesn't wear off...

What's another blog that you read and why do you recommend it?
Evil HR Lady is fantastic.  From my point of view it's interesting because a lot of my role is HR-focussed, and from a recruiter's point-of-view it's an interesting view of the world of HR.  I also enjoy Resume Hell: we've all seen and enjoyed some CV howlers in our time.

What do you want your reader’s to know about you?
To be honest, I'd rather they knew very little!  The blog's not about me, it's the world of technology recruitment and about how to find a job or find new talent.  My background isn't that important.

If you knew someone was thinking about starting a recruitment related blog, what advice would you want to give them?
Set aside enough time.  Even if you think you can manage it using very little time, you can't.

Is there a question you wished I asked you?
I wish you'd asked a bit more about Idealpeople.  But then I guess readers can find out more about us on the blog, right...?
