Why People Quit Their Jobs

Iresign

I-resign.com (a website for "resignation advice and information") have conducted an international survey of 89,432 users to identify why people leave their jobs.  The UK results showed:

- 45.5% tend to stay within their existing industry when moving jobs
- 29.98% changed sectors altogether
- 7.01% said they quit work to go back to education and learn new skills
- 5.36% decided to go travelling
- 2.02% left their jobs to have a baby
- 5.56% opted to start their own businesses (2.46% in a different industry sector)

I thought the results were interesting for any recruiter to be aware of.  For example when conducting advertising assignments maybe you need to advertise outside the sector you are targeting.  When conducting a search assignment it may explain why you need to make so many calls to get someone interested in the role (with less than half of people want to stay in the same industry and 12% leaving corporate life altogether)!
