Interview with a blogger - Emily Fisher

Intv_emilyEmily has been working in digital media since 2005. Starting as a recruitment consultant at Ecom Recruitment and specialising in the digital media arena, in early 2007 she moved to Chinwag, the UK’s largest and oldest new media community to be the Production Manager across Chinwag Live and Chinwag Jobs.  She is one of the contributors to the  Chinwag blogpark.

How long have you been blogging?
Just under a year

Why did you start?
I started blogging when I came to work for Chinwag - they needed some to be done and it was something I was interested in, so I stepped up.

What do you do, work related, when you aren't blogging?
I am the Production Manager here at Chinwag which means my role is really varied. I make sure all the production needs we have get sorted on time, chase assets, write newsletters, moderate a couple of our mailing lists, handle the resource for various projects, make tea, organize people and a lot of general bossing and nagging really. I also help out on the events when I’m needed and attend all the Chinwag Live events for networking and digital banter.

Do you think blogging has helped your business?
Definitely - we get lots of traffic to Chinwag Jobs through the Chinwag Jobs blog and also through our other blogs.

What do you feel is the biggest challenge about writing a blog?
Sometimes finding the right story can be a real challenge but once you have an article or topic in mind, it’s just starting the post off really, I always find the opening few lines a bit tricky.

What's another blog that you read and why do you recommend it?
I subscribe to the Media Guardian blog – lots of gadgets and interesting content. I also keep an eye on the BBC technology blogs, the Chinwag Blogs and my mate’s blogs too – I like to be nosey.

What do you want your reader’s to know about you?
I really like crisps.

If you knew someone was thinking about starting a recruitment related blog, what advice would you want to give them?
To try and get a mix of hardcore the recruitment statistics and the more light hearted approach – mix up the posts basically. Also, it’s important to quote your source and find the origin of it if possible – always good to get your facts backed up!

Is there a question you wished I asked you?
Don’t think so.
