Recruiters' Charity Activities

Charity1_2Here's something positive after yesterday's post - recruiter's raising money for charity.  These are a few of things I got press releases on or read about towards the end of last year.

Firstly, the extreme route with Peter Gold.  All you need do is look at the photo on Peter's blog to see the sort of charity runner he is.  Peter gets involved in adventure races, marathons, ultra marathons and mountain marathons.  For his latest "jaunt" Peter completed the Jungle Marathon in aid of Leukaemia Research.

No less impressive to us non-runners was David Vizard (sales director at Oriel Support) who successfully completed the Great North Run in aid of the Alzheimer’s Society. He personally raised over £600, which was then matched by Oriel, bringing the grand total to £1,200.

Robert Broderick (who did the "Tough Guy" event back in the summer for Cancer Research) and his colleagues from itec systems are taking part in a 10K run around the brands Hatch Circuit on February 9th 2008 in aid of the Motor Neurone Disease Association. 

Finally, on the subject of charity I want to mention fellow blogger Jonathan Fagan.  His company, Ten-Percent Legal Recruitment donate 10% of their annual profits to various charities each year.  You can read about the charities here.

We've noticed a massiv upsurge in corporate charitable giving recently (small "Idealpeople are charitable too plug: http://www.idealpeople.net/news/sponsor.html). Even HSBC are getting involved - donating £2 for every "sales" product sold in January. £2? Does that count as charitable giving, or is it more of a publicity stunt? In fact, does any charitable giving qualify as such, or should a more cynical view be taken?
