Never one to shy away from criticism (actually that's very untrue in most cases!) I thought I'd share this email I got yesterday afternoon:
Your blog used to be fun, interesting and a pleasant distraction at lunch.
Recently, its got boring, i'll keep readinging it, dont worry and I think you are great, but where as 6 months ago, every blog was interesting, now is about 1 blog in every 10 that is interesting.
Steve,
(a recruitment consultant)
So, I'm dull. Whilst I think of ways to enliven the blog I am open to suggestions.....
ouch!

I say, take him off the mailing list...
No, but seriously - at least he's said something - most people would just stop reading and not tell you why.
And your blog isn't boring.

Louise,
I like the blog - its your blog so continue doing it the way you want.
I just get really bored when people start talking about the whole e-recruitment or job board world and your blog seems to for ever bang on about it. I dont understand the whole job board dynamic, but you write about it all the time, and then theres the debate about whos better than who, and whose getting the most hits, and then even further, the whole discussion about the types of "hits" and "clicks" which is like pandorras box.
As an outsider, it just sounds its a world on its own and its almost like a child playground. theres no truth in what these job boards say they achieve and as soon as one of them say they acomplish something, all the others are quick to knock them down etc, so all these rankings table of which one is the best etc has no credibility therefore its boring.
Maybe you could do a blog about what all this means?
Im a recruitment cosultant, working for an egency, and I do contingecy recruitment - Everyone I know who does the same type of recruitment as me has the same attitude as me towards e-recruitment and job boards, so when you blog about them, we dont read them.
But its your blog!!!! not mine so do what you want!!!
Im not telling you what to blog about, thats up to you, just what bores me.

@Mike Thanks for your support.
@Dom and @Luke I'm going to thank you for your support to - but I'm only guessing that it's support!
@Steve Thanks for the clarification of your issue with my posts. I will try to steer clear of job boards for a bit!
I plan to write about social networking and LinkedIn this week. Oh, actually I've just seen I am writing about the Online Recruitment Awards (job boards!) and a Harvey Nash report (on job boards!) next week. Sorry about that!

Only having a little fun Louise! I support you completely.
Actually I think Steven is in the minority - if you look at your very popular forum the most discussed threads surround job-boards / awards etc etc.
It isn't just Job-Board owners who comment either alot of the time we get a pretty good pasting! To be frank if you are online blogging then it would be expected that you spend a majority of your time discussing online issues - Job Boards / Software / Recruiter Branding and best practice.
Mind you a good old bitch about REC always seems to go down well!

my words were definitely support - i dont react to criticism that well either - when my blog was being dissected by my "friends" i nodded way and thanked them for their comments and really appreciated their input but was actually thinking "if you are so f***ing clever - why dont you do it better yourself" - that says more about me than them, i think. I love the job board and e-recruitment posts by the way. And to be frank - E-recruitment is about the most siginificant thing to happen to this industry in about.... well, ever actually.

I think you should swear more, it seems to work for our newsletter....and Gordon Ramsey.

@Luke - Thank you. Will try to think of something to critise the REC for...
@Dom - Thank you too! I do wonder what I'd write about if erecruitment "dried up"
@Jamie - F**k off with your rubbish advice! Is that the sort of thing you meant :)

Thats the one. It's immediately more interesting.
On a serious note, don’t worry about what people think about your blog. It’s popular because you write with passion and you obviously care about what you write. I’ve never owned a car but Top Gear is one of my favourite TV shows, because they talk with passion. I’d read a blog on Turkish door knobs if it was written by someone that gave a damn about Turkish door knobs.

Jamie - Is it childish for me to wonder if that example was just an excuse to use a rude word?
Posted by: Louise Triance | 03 October 2008 at 04:43 PM
@Louise - it was'nt, and the spelled differently, but I'll take it.
@Luke - I was actually going to by that URL to reroute to MyLongLunch, but it's far to much effort. We are seeing you in 2 weeks at our Banking & Finace event right?

yup! we can compare knobs then
Posted by: Luke Collier | 06 October 2008 at 03:02 PM
2 f***ing knobs together then. At least you should be able to get in and out via the door.
